About This Site

Built for patients.
Not for practitioners.

MercuryFreeDental.com is an independent educational resource for patients navigating mercury filling removal and mercury-free dentistry.

Our Mission

Why we built this

Patients looking for information about mercury filling removal encounter two extremes: alarmist advocacy sites that overstate risk and exaggerate benefits, and dismissive conventional sources that understate legitimate patient concerns. We built MercuryFreeDental.com to occupy the honest middle ground — evidence-aware, patient-centered, and transparent about uncertainty.

No affiliate links or paid product placements
No advertiser influence on editorial content
We acknowledge scientific uncertainty honestly
We do not recommend specific products or brands
Provider listings are clearly disclosed as self-reported
We update content when guidelines or evidence changes
Editorial Principles

How we think about content

01
Evidence first, advocacy second
We start with what peer-reviewed research actually shows — not what advocacy organizations want it to show. Where the evidence is strong, we say so. Where it's mixed or uncertain, we say that too. We never overstate findings in either direction.
02
Acknowledge what we don't know
The science on dental amalgam has genuine uncertainties. Long-term effects in sensitive populations, optimal removal timing for healthy patients, comparative outcomes across protocols — these are real areas of ongoing research. We don't pretend otherwise.
03
Patient autonomy over prescription
Our job is to inform, not to tell you what to do. We present options, tradeoffs, and evidence so you can make an informed decision in conversation with your own healthcare provider. We don't recommend specific treatments for specific patients.
04
Transparency about limitations
Provider listings are self-reported. The Mercury Safety Score™ is an educational tool, not a quality certification. Our cost estimates are ranges, not quotes. We make these limitations clear throughout the site.
05
No commercial relationships
We don't run affiliate programs, accept advertising, or receive payments from dental product companies or individual providers for favorable coverage. Provider listings are offered as a public resource, not a paid placement.

Are you a dental provider?

We welcome practices that meet our criteria for listing in our provider directory. We require disclosure of specific protocol information (rubber dam use, evacuation technique, air filtration, etc.) and do not accept payment for higher scores or favorable placement.
